I'm mostly just coughing a lot still with a runny nose, but I'm feeling a good bit better than I was. It's still hard to keep up with the baby when Tim's working all the time, but after a little heart to heart with him tonight, he's pulling baby duty to give me a few moments of peace and a little extra sleep so I can actually get better completely. Before this the only free time I snagged was a daily shower... I know I need to start asking for help when I need it, not when I've hit the breaking point. A hard lesson for me.
Kat is still refusing to sleep on her back, so until we can find a better solution, she sleeps on us all night long. I figured out it's not her needing us to hold her, once she's asleep if you put her on her tummy she'll sleep happily for hours. I only do this when I'm sitting RIGHT next to her keeping an eye on her! Granted she has fantastic neck control and will lift herself up with her arms and reposition her head from side to side during sleep, but I am still too worried! We have her 1 month checkup on Monday, so we'll talk to Dr. Das about it... I'm not holding out too much hope there. We've tried swaddling, letting her cry it out, every different sleep surface in the house on all different inclines- nothing matters- within minutes of being put on her back no matter how deep her sleep she wakes up crying nay- screaming. My only 2 solutions at this point unless the doc has a better idea are- tough it out for a few more months until she's able to start rolling over on her own, at which point it's safe to let her tummy sleep... or find the money somewhere for one of those Angel Monitors so she can sleep on her tummy where ever she wants and I'll feel safe knowing that alarm will go off if she stops breathing. I know that I was a tummy sleeper as a baby, and many many folks did the same... I just can't take the chance with the SIDS risk. I'd never be able to rest. I can't ignore the research, and after a dear friend lost her son 2 years ago... I'm simply terrified.
Angel Monitor things- very cool- link here: http://www.amazon.com/Angelcare-Movement-Sensor-Nursery-Monitor/dp/B0000CEDRO/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2MJKFIHPE3H42&colid=1OSKHBQSLMLTU

It would certainly allow me to actually sleep in my bed at night... but unfortunately it's not money we have at the moment. I'm tempted to start saving what pennies I get to buy this eventually- it may seem frivolous to some, but I actually know someone whose baby's life was saved by a monitor like this. It went off, and she went in to check her baby and she was blue- as soon as she woke her up she started breathing again. Turned out the baby had RSV and had to head to the hospital soon after, but it saved her life. That makes it definitely worth 80 bucks of my money... well that and the prospect of actual sleep at night! I'd pay for that LOL
Other than that things are going well. Kat is growing by leaps and bounds, her little face is already changing from her hospital pics. She's going to be so pretty I think... her eyes are so big and bright and curious with looooong curly eyelashes.... and when she smiles, she smiles with her whole face, she simply lights up. I have my times when I feel like I'm beyond my breaking point, but then she grins at me and it helps me keep going. I love this little potato head...
Tim and I are both tired, but trying to make time for each other. Since Kat's sleep schedule is so crazy, we mostly just relieve each other for sleep and don't get to spend any time together. We haven't been able to sleep together since Kat was born. We're trying to set up 'date nights' as often as possible so we can actually get some one on one time together without the baby- it does help some, but I miss getting to spend time with him! It's so weird, like I have a roommate that I have an occasional date with....
That's all for tonight... time to stay up all night again with Kat! Goddess Bless Netflix... tonight I'm watching Mists of Avalon all night long.

OMG I love this thing, especially since I had to have the emergency c-section, it helps me hold her without irritating my incision. Even without the incision, she loves just sitting up in it looking around (yes she's holding her head up already and looking around, super early!). I use it to feed her, play with her, and in the hospital it helped hold her in the bed when my arms were too weak from medicine and sleepyness. I think this will definitely continue being useful. Yes, a regular pillow would have worked, but the shape of the Boppy really helps us use it for more than just feedings. We were lucky and got one with a super soft case, so Kat just loves rubbing on it and is immediately comforted when she's laid on it, knowing that food and/or playtime is coming!
This was another gift from Jen, and lordy lordy.... not sure what we ever could've done without it! Kat has reflux and bad gas, and she has periods that she simply cannot rest on her back. I could spend all day comforting her tied to the couch or chair holding her so she can rest, or I can just strap her into the Moby and work around the house, surf the internet, or just walk her back and forth around the house! (It really helps her ease those nasty gassy bubbles out!) I wear it and Tim also wears it quite a bit. I've become a HUGE fan of babywearing, and Kat just adores it. She just cuddles right in, gives a coo, and goes right to sleep. It helps her sleep, and helps me keep my sanity just a little longer. :o) I know there are cheaper versions out there, I can't speak for them, but this is one of my absolute life saving baby gifts!
this thing retails at Toys R Us for almost $60.00, I was lucky enough to score an almost brand new one at a yard sale this summer for $5.00. According to Tim, it would've been worth the $60.00 simply to be able to put Kat down once in awhile. She doesn't really get into the vibrations or sounds so much yet, but the shape of it is very comforting to her and she will sleep on her back for periods of time in the chair. I think because it's slightly reclined and she feels cradled she sleeps a bit better in that than her bassinet for now. We have another vibrating chair we picked up, but the round shape of this chair makes it FAR superior, especially for a fussy newborn. Kat loves it, and it does allow us to put her down for periods of time, which is a current priority for us.
we got like 3 of these at the baby shower, and she LOVES them. At her fussiest, all we need to do is take off her onesie, and cradle her in the soft fuzzy blanket next to her skin and she immediately calms down, starts cooing, and falls asleep quickly. She's big on contact and soft textures, this helps keep her calm when her tummy hurts.
the Halo Sack, and Blanket Sleepers from Carters- we have swaddlers, she's not really a fan of these so far, but she adores her fleece blanket sleepers that Tim's mom and our friend Luna got for her! They're a bit big on her, but it works because it keeps her hands covered and she doesn't need to wear mittens so much. She lives in these when we're at home most of the time, and they keep her nice and snuggly warm while still letting her kick her legs to work out nasty gas bubbles!
Another gift from Jen- we use this at least 2 times a day, it helps cut down the time we spend pre-making bottles for Kat and gives me the peace of mind that all her nipples and covers are sterile. It's super easy to use, and gets a ton of use already! Totally worth it, especially if you don't have a dish washer!
once we got her off of the hospital bottles (she would scream alllll night long from gas) and onto her new Playtex bottles, her episodes of very painful gas have really decreased. Add in the fact that they're BPA free, and I get not only a less fussy baby, but less to worry about (which at this point is a blessing!). Also for those dishwasher free homes, the less clean up is totally a life saver for you!
